Charismatic Chaos by John MacArthur
« on: April 08, 2010, 08:43:51 AM »
This book discusses the gross misrepresentation of "speaking in tongues" that many Pentecostals and Charismatics tout as proof of "baptism of fire". Not only that but it goes in depth about the role of such "signs and wonders" during the apostilic age. Most importantly it discusses the need for the supremacy of Scripture as the standard by which we judge something as "of God" or "not of God". Great read for those who have watched in curiosity as someone began running up and down the church building babbling gibberish.
Doth that man love his Lord who would be willing to see Jesus wearing a crown of thorns, while for himself he craves a chaplet of laurel? Shall Jesus ascend to his throne by the cross, and do we expect to be carried there on the shoulders of applauding crowds? Charles H. Spurgeon

Also Bruchko, by Bruce Olson reports a proper and genuine modern-day function of tongues.

There's a little more in misunderstanding of this function of the Spirit, in the Pentecostal section of the forum.
