To those outside the church it is likely that you often can't discern the difference between many who call themselves Christian, and others who are in the world. There have been Christian posers throughout the Christian era. Here is a couple of ways to judge:

John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

So we can properly judge things like the imperialistic conquest of the Crusades.

And Islam - always the opposite:

Koran (Sura 8:12) I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them

Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee [Abram] a great nation [Israel], and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Hadith: “Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: oh servant of Allah, oh Muslim, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!
