'Hamas & Sharia Law Have Taken Over UC Davis'

A Facebook post from a member of the student gov't and a proponent of the recently passed resolution for UC Davis to divest from Israel.

“Hamas & Sharia law have taken over UC Davis,” proclaimed Azka Fayyaz, a member of the University of California, Davis' student senate, after a vote by the student government calling on the university to divest itself of companies that do business with Israel.

“The student senator’s statement that Hamas and sharia law are taking over UC Davis is alarming," said the international spokesman for the Jewish campus organization, Hillel. He made the statement to the newsite Truth Revolt. "BDS [Boycott, Divestment, Sanction] supporters have aligned themselves with a terrorist entity and an ideology that would impose strict religious-based restrictions on everyone. If this is what BDS is about, it’s even worse than anyone thought. We hope that students of all faiths see this evidence that this is a hate-filled movement.”

The resolution was sponsored by the group “Students for Justice in Palestine” and brought before the student senate for the vote.

Hamas, the Palestinian wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, has been designated as a terrorist entity by the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and Israel. Egypt recently banned the armed wing of Hamas, which it listed as a terrorist organization.

In addition, both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have banned the Muslim Brotherhood and many of its affiliates for being terrorist groups.

Hamas explicitly calls for the destruction of the state of Israel and for jihad as the means to make this happen.

Fayyaz, who voted in favor of the resolution, was previously filmed holding a sign showing the Israeli Prime Minister with horns and a Hilter mustache giving the “Heil Hitler” salute. The sign read, “Netanyahu, Hitler’s Illegitimate Child.”

The vote followed what was described as weeks of “whip[ping] the campus into a venom-filled frenzy against the Jewish state” by those supporting the boycott. 

The morning following the vote, Jewish fraternity members of Alpha Epsilon Pi, awakened to discover that their house had been defaced with swastikas.

“This whole week has not been a great week to be a Jewish student on campus and this is manifesting in an extremely physical way,” said Nathaniel Bernhard, vice president of the UC Davis chapter of AEPI.

Fayyaz’ enthusiasm for the implementation of sharia law in America is not an isolated incidence. A letter signed by 126 international and U.S. Muslim leaders and scholars, written to rebut the theological arguments behind the actions of the Islamic State ISIS), made a point to endorse sharia governance, including its brutal hudud punishments.

The signatories to the letter, including Nihad Awad, the found and executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), also supported the rebuilding of an Islamic caliphate. Ironically, sharia governance and the rebuilding of the caliphate are both the stated goals of the Islamic State.

CAIR was recently named as a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates.
