Perterists proclaim that Christ's Second Coming happened in 70 AD, during a period of tribulation, conquest and slaughter perhaps unprecedented in the history of Jerusalem, as frequently suggested by preterists themselves. Yet the scriptures describe it as a period in which:
Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Do those verses describe the circumstances in Jerusalem when the Romans sacked it in 70 AD? Was it really like just another day in the life, as described? Were folks just eating and drinking and marrying each other during that holocaust? Some reports even indicate that they were cannibalizing each other!
Does that really describe Jesus returning as a thief in the night? Or are circumstances in the world today more like that described? Even as we stand perched on the precipice of the end of the schemes of Federal Reserve phony money, and Keynesian economics, folks seem to be more interested in sports, and going out to restaurants and marrying. How many are expecting the Second Coming of Christ today?
2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 [Seeing] then [that] all these things shall be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all] holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
