Duck Dynasty - Phil Robertson's Comments Are Controversial?

I'm not familiar with the show, or the character, but there has been a lot of news about a "controversy" that I quick web searched. From what I have read, it seems the vast majority of the pundits wish to believe that Phil's comments - have to do with Phil. To disabuse non-member forum readers of this thread, of such a notion, I'll include the two subject passages from scripture:

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. 1Cr 6:9 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Sin is sin. Phil was kind enough to offer the warning from scripture to those that engage in serial sin, for which warning Phil is being vilified, though to the Scripture literate his pointing out the passages should not be controversial. Even though in Canada, Christian pastors have been imprisoned for preaching from the first chapter of Romans.

Regarding those that are Scripture illiterate, it isn't surprising to find those that stand outside of the Spirit of God and of the world, would find his quoting those verses from scripture to be controversial. These poor folks are stuck measuring the scriptures, through the moral relativity of an increasingly Godless society and pop-culture, rather than measuring folks behavior according to Scripture. Not surprisingly, those within the liberal apostate church that have deceived themselves into believing they are Christian, while following a god of their own creation that they have conformed to the world, point an accusing finger as well.

Where are all the fornicators, thieves, adulterers and drunkards coming out to whine about Phil's preaching? Why aren't they seeking protected status, from discussion about their chosen serial sin, by demanding an end to free speech? Could it be that they are silent, perhaps because they have not been given over to a reprobate mind, and convict themselves regarding their own sin?

I posted the passages here for folks perusal, that are searching this subject on the Internet, as a warning not from me but from the Word of God, to those unrepentant and living in serial sin of any nature. It has nothing to do with Phil Robertson, but God Himself, as He is revealed through the Scriptures.

This is not about Pajama Boy’s low T problem, but rather the war on manly courage in our culture today. Manly courage has little to do with hunting and collecting guns, but as Alexis de Tocqueville described it in “Democracy in America”, it is about the masculine independence of opinion:

'In that immense crowd which throngs the avenues to power in the United States I found very few men who displayed any of that manly candor and that masculine independence of opinion which frequently distinguished the Americans in former times, and which constitutes the leading feature in distinguished characters, wheresoever they may be found.'

The short-lived Phil Robertson drama is a demonstration of how the left abhors independence of opinion. Anyone disagreeing with the president is a racist. Anyone discussing the principles of the Bible, is spouting hate speech. By insisting that offending others is a violation of some unwritten moral law, organizations like GLAAD can scream bloody murder when anyone expresses an opinion that contradicts their agenda.

What they don’t say is that this moral code only protects groups they find acceptable. It does not protect those like Phil Robertson with a masculine independence of opinion from being called a racist or a bigot. It does not protect proud pro-life conservative women like Sarah Palin, or gun toting women like our Regis Giles. It does not protect black conservatives like Allen West or Ben Carson. It does not protect anyone that goes against the liberal agenda, which is why labeling themselves as “liberals” is such a farce. The only thing liberal about liberalism is the amount of power they hold to dominate the media and abuse those who disagree."

You know, it is funny that you should post that.  I was reading about how offended people were by the vulgarity of the words used by Phil, and the bluntness of his speech.  He referenced the words anus and vagina.  This one article, in particular, had the following to say:

"...but worshipers in the congregations of Rome and Corinth did not have to put hands over the ears of their children when Paul’s letter was read to their church..."

To which I responded:

The Bible tells stories of rape, incest, murder, speaks of beastiality, women's breasts, sexual intercourse, bloody discharge after consummation as proof of virginity, and other things. People were stoned in front of the assembly, burned up by fire, swallowed by the earth, and many many other things... aren't we being just a bit over zealous with the whole covering of the children's ears thing?

The sad thing is they are complaining about Phil's use of medical terminology, when out of their own tongue probably comes far worse terms for those anatomical structures.

I'm going to make myself watch the show. To date I have only caught a minute or two while surfing by and it didn't attract me. But after seeing the first interview in the OP I got an interest.

Yes, I knew about that.  I've watched two episodes... I'm just not much for this kind of television (or television in general).

Besides not liking reality shows, I begrudge the network's success at airing shows that barely cost them 2 nickles, compared to drama. But after seeing that interview at least, it seems  he at least has a good handle on the two distinctly different places. The world and the kingdom of God.

Peter, My wife got me to watching it. It is basically redneck comedy, which at times can be funny. Uncle Si is why I continue to watch it. He is funny without trying to be. Some of their shenanigans are re-enactments of things that  they did in the past, and others are things they see others doing and they try it with their own twist, such as the lawn-mower racing segment.  But Phil definitely has the handle on the difference between the world's ways and God's ways,as does everyone else on the show.
