"Canadian Slashes Wife, Daughter in Attempted Honor Killing
A husband and father viciously attacked his wife and daughter with a butcher knife in what police are investigating as an honor crime.
A mother and daughter are in the hospital in Canda after having survived a vicious attack in Ottawa in what police are investigating as an honor crime. Both women managed to escape the house and call for help after the husband and father inflicted serious injuries to them with a butcher knife.
Labib Khawas, 55, a successful realtor, is facing two counts of attempted murder after he attacked his wife, Dianne, slashing her back and neck and daughter, Jenna, a third-year University of Ottawa biomedical sciences student, slicing off her little finger.
The couple has two other children, a son who is also a university student and a teenaged daughter.
Dainne Khawas is a vice principal of an elementary school and a convert to Islam.
Hospital surgeons were able to reattach the daughter's finger.
Ottawa police say this is the third case of honor-based violence they have investigated this month alone and that they are seeing a rising trend in honor crimes in the area."
