Daniel 8:14

To anyone who might have an answer. In Daniel 8:14 there are 2300 days mentioned. I couldn't locate the year the prophecy was given because king belshazzar's reign can't be pinpointed. So I tried to use the context of the chapter to decide where to start. I used 1967 since it was the year that the jews finally gained control of all of Jerusalem. When I made the conversion to julian years and subtracted 1967 from them I got 300 bc. This year is the year that the greek empire was finally seperated into quarters by Alaxander's generals which is described in the chapter in question. My question is whether this is the way the 2300 days should be interpreted or is there something I am missing? I would like to thank brother pete for responding. I am relatively new to forums and am glad to find one that discusses what I have felt in my spirit for some time.

Having done a quick Yahoo there is certainly no shortage of opinion, with a couple cults weighing in as well.

I don't have an answer, nor have I spent any time to speak of in this verse. Nor, as I remember does Mr. Skolfield have an answer to this particular problem.

14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
15 And it came to pass, when I, [even] I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

Not real sure why the KJV left out "mornings" as the Strong's definitions for the Hebrew here includes it:

As do other versions that I am generally adverse to, and remain so since it's easy to check the KJV with Greek interlinear and in this case Strong's for the Hebrew. Another couple versions:

(LITV (Green)) Daniel 8:14 And he said to me, For two thousand, three hundred evenings and mornings, then the sanctuary will be put right.

That might open the possibility to 115 evenings and 115 mornings.

(Rotherham) Daniel 8:14 And he said unto him, Until two thousand and three hundred evening-mornings,--then shall the sanctuary, be vindicated.

The reference to "great horn" in the preceeding verse 8 is to Alexander the Great.
The prophecy was written in the "third year of Cyrus" (in Babylon) which would make it 533 BC.

Dan 8:8 Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.

and as you mention was divided among 4 generals, which was fulfilled about 200 years after this prophecy was written.
