The Future Rebuilt Temple
« on: July 27, 2008, 08:08:18 AM »
Here's a typical conversation with a futurist. This one from an internet high profile, long time established, and large, futurist ministry:

Pete:

[thanks for the contact].

One Question. Where is the temple of God?

Thanks,
Pete

Futurist:

Currently,

Almighty God's Holy Spirit indwells the Physical bodies of those who have accepted God's plan of Salvation through Yeshua Ha'Maschiach, The LORD Jesus Christ.

In Yeshua,
[name]

Pete:

Certainly our own body is the temple of the Holy Ghost.
But might the "temple of God" include our individual body, as well as the corporate body of Christ?

Thanks.

Futurist:

LOL...define the "corporate Body of Christ"...

In Christ,
[name]

Pete:

Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are.

John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

Didn't Jesus rebuild the temple in 3 days, just as He told the Pharisees He would?

Futurist:

What is your point?

Pete:

Given the location of the "temple of God" it's interesting to contemplate the ECUSA ordination of Gene Robinson as bishop and more recently, Todd Bentley, in the light of this verse:

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

No more return responses AS YET from "futurist". Will post them if there are. The clinical term for what he is likely experiencing is called cognitive dissonance.

Any futurist that wanders into this forum is more than welcome to pick up the ball where he dropped it.

The scriptural fact of the matter is that if a Christian believes that a future rebuilt temple can be found in scripture, then wouldn't they have to believe that Jesus' perfect and finished work on the Cross, was incomplete and left unfinished?

With just the few comments above, John Darby's mid-19th century eschatological invention folds like a house of cards.
