Sura 5:47
Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein. I had always suspected that verse to have been among Muhammad's earlier Mecca recitations, and that Islamic scholars simply relied on the fallback of claiming that verse to have been nullified and substituted with a better one. Because the Quraish pointed out that Muhammad's recitations were full of self-contradiction, Muhammad tried to excuse it away by claiming it to have been revealed "in stages", with latter recitations nullifying and substituting for earlier recitations that they contradicted:

That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, ..... for of a surety they killed him not:-http://www.falseprophetmuhammad.com/index.htmI had been somewhat mystified as to why Muhammad's followers haven't simply been declaring Sura 5:47 to have been nullified, until it recently dawned on me to check its chronological position in the Quran compared to Surah 4:157. As it happens, Sura 5:47 that instructs Christians to go by what is revealed in the Gospel, is in one of the last chapters
or even the last chapter that Muhammad recited, and definitely
after Surah 4:157 in which Muhammad denied the basis of the whole subject of the Gospel. So Muhammad's followers can't even allow themselves to make the claim, that his telling Christians to go by what is in the Gospel, was nullified and substituted by
Muhammad's denial of the basis of the whole subject of the Gospel!Even worse Muhammad's followers are required to believe those verses contain Muhammad's
"Allah's" words so they can't even blame Muhammad for being ignorant to the whole subject of the Gospel that, for many centuries before Muhammad, Christians had already been going by what is revealed therein.
