To Seekers
« on: April 16, 2008, 11:07:26 AM »
Please don't let the subjects in this forum confuse you.
This is geared for those with more mature relationships with their Creator.

The differences in doctrines are generally in the periphery. The greatest differences occur from interpretations of figurative language, and particularly in regard to end-time doctrine found in the book of Revelation and others.

ALL Christians are agreed on the core of our doctrine. The peripheral differences, are sometimes discussed in a somewhat passionate manner, because rethinking something that we have been taught - that is imagining that part of what we have been taught could be wrong - is unthinkable to some.  Even though there are a couple of thousand denominations!
A big difference is that we can discuss these differences, and not murder each other over them, like Sunnis and Shiites, for example do.

We highly recommend the King James Version which is the most widely read and trusted in Christianity. This online version is also fun to explore words, phrases and terms in:

This version has menus for Greek interlinear, Strong's definitions and such, but unfortunately it is NKJV by default, but you can access the KJV with the same upper left drop-down menu:

Right after I posed my question I was thinking

 "Well God would want me to just go ahead and read starting with the list I have so far..."

 I then flipped the Bible open and saw words which described what I had just been thinking:

 PSALM 139
 The All-Knowing & Ever-Present God

 LORD, you have probed me, you know me...

 So I read the rest past the beginning and it is exactly what I think of God and think of the Islam situation

 I found a copy online so I'll go ahead and submit it.h

 O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
 2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
 you discern my thoughts from far away.
 3 You search out my path and my lying down,
 and are acquainted with all my ways.
 4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
 O Lord, you know it completely.
 5 You hem me in, behind and before,
 and lay your hand upon me.
 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
 it is so high that I cannot attain it.

 7 Where can I go from your spirit?
 Or where can I flee from your presence?
 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there;
 if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
 9 If I take the wings of the morning
 and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
 10 even there your hand shall lead me,
 and your right hand shall hold me fast.
 11 If I say, 'Surely the darkness shall cover me,
 and the light around me become night',
 12 even the darkness is not dark to you;
 the night is as bright as the day,
 for darkness is as light to you.

 13 For it was you who formed my inward parts;
 you knit me together in my mother's womb.
 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
 Wonderful are your works;
 that I know very well.
 15 My frame was not hidden from you,
 when I was being made in secret,
 intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
 16 Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.
 In your book were written
 all the days that were formed for me,
 when none of them as yet existed.
 17 How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!
 How vast is the sum of them!
 18 I try to count them—they are more than the sand;
 I come to the end*—I am still with you.

 19 O that you would kill the wicked, O God,
 and that the bloodthirsty would depart from me—
 20 those who speak of you maliciously,
 and lift themselves up against you for evil!*
 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?
 And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
 22 I hate them with perfect hatred;
 I count them my enemies.
 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
 test me and know my thoughts.
 24 See if there is any wicked* way in me,
 and lead me in the way everlasting.*

 You may be confused so once again I'll clarify my Atheism: it never went for Materialism qua Present Science I merely don't know the Ontology of everything.Science is in its infancy and in future I think (if the devils who run the world give us one) will unite with Philosophy.

 I would not have bothered you again, I just thought you'd find it amusing.

 If you can't see the Poetry of Koran it can be exhausting!

 Much Peace To You.

[[[I then flipped the Bible open and saw words which described what I had just been thinking:]]]]

It's not unusual for seekers to open a bible randomly and land right on a passage that speaks directly to them at that moment. Like this former Muslim.

The Psalms passage you were directed to is also the basis of a popular contemporary hymn that is sung likely in most non-denominational churches. I only found one performance quickly by this girl who is giving it her best shot.

Psalms is also a fun book to read from when you only have a minute or two as it is a collection of songs, rather than a continuous passage. Some wisdom and philosophy.

[edit add] Another title of a song from that Psalm is "You Are there" arranged by Clay Heacocks. Following link to an mp3 download.
