It has been a while since I posted in this thread. I will post more on the OT sacrificial system later, but I wanted to post this while it is still fresh in my mind.
I have been reading the book of 1 Samuel and I noticed something that I had not considered in detail before. King David's reign and the first part of his life are very similar to the dual roles that Jesus serves.
In 1 Samuel you will read of a youth who uses his gifts to save his people. He uses his skills from shepherding to slay Goliath. Protecting his people from the giant as a shepherd protects his flock from lions and bears. Jesus protected his people from the ravages of Satan by breaking the bondage of sin. He even called himself the "Good Shepherd".
David uses his musical skill to soothe King Saul's spirit. Jesus uses his words to soothe all souls that hear them.
But even with all his niceties David became a man of war. Avenging his people from the wrongs of their enemies. This I believe is a foreshadowing of Jesus' own vengence. God is merciful but one must not forget that He is also a just God.
1Sa 16:18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, [that is] cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD [is] with him.
Isa 42:13 The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.
It would make since that David's life would be a foreshadowing of Jesus' life and reign. David was a man after God's own heart.
